Special Notice: This session is open only to educators participating in the Regional Education Consortium. School Division ID required at check in. Pre-registration required.
This two-day session introduces teachers to the Cognitive Process of Instruction (CPOI), which is a training program based on cognitive science. The focus of the session is on the learning principals of teaching. These principles are based on the increase in stored knowledge. First, teachers learn how to build a category network and strategic knowledge for the concept. These two replace repetition and recall. Second, teachers learn how to increase the category network in the student’s mind and embed higher level thinking activities in each step of the process. This two-day session teaches how to successfully close the achievement gap in the classroom in any discipline. Participants should bring their SOL enhanced Scope and Sequence for the discipline he/she teaches to plan a unit of study. Also bring your own device, if possible.
