Innovative ideas in elementary social studies education will break boundaries, forge new molds and shape instruction for the future. Come learn about implementing the 2015 History and Social Science Standards of Learning and how focusing on the skills and the interaction that takes place around the skills makes them powerful in classroom instruction. Information on performance-based assessments that measure subject-matter proficiency and the ability of students to apply the content and skills they have learned will be shared. Performance-based assessments assess acquisition of the Five-Cs- critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration and citizenship- described in the Board of Education’s Profile of a Virginia Graduate
